About

This is really embarrassing…back in high school and college I used to be addicted to 7-11 Slurpees. It’s so hard to believe now, but I used to drink 3 or 4 of those sugar-loaded slushy drinks every week. B and I laugh about how I used to know where all the 7-11’s were within a 15 mile radius of my LA county based college.

My diet back then was so off-balance. I was a long distance runner, and thought it was OK to drink all that sugar as long as I wasn’t gaining weight. To say I was a “junk food vegetarian” would have been very accurate.

These days when the kids and I have a hankering for something cold and slushy on a hot summer’s afternoon we experiment with combinations of frozen fruit, sparkling water, fruit juices and stevia. Strawberry Kiwi is our current favorite.

Serves 4

6 kiwis, peeled cubed and frozen

2 cups strawberry, fresh or frozen

juice from 1 Orange

8 ounces sparkling mineral water, lime flavored

1-2 Packet Stevia

Directions
1

Peel and cube the kiwis and freeze for a few hours.

2

Throw all of the ingredients into a high speed blender or food processor. Blend on high speed until smooth and slushy.

3

Serve with fun straws and garnish with fresh, sliced strawberries and kiwi. Enjoy!
