Do you only eat when you’re hungry?
This is an interesting thing to consider each time you reach for food. It’s amazing how many extra calories we can accumulate for reasons other than hunger.
You could be eating out of habit. You could be eating out of boredom. You could be eating out of social obligation. You could be eating for comfort. You could be eating for fun.
Part of your real-food journey is to get to a place where your primary motivation for consumption is hunger.
Enjoy this recipe . . . but only if you’re actually hungry!
This is the grown-up version of the fried fish sticks that you enjoyed as a kid. It still has the crave- worthy crunchy breaded outside, but with the addition of sophisticated herbs and spices.
Note: The success of your Crispy Fish hinges entirely on the quality of fillets that you use. Buy only the freshest, highest-quality fish.
2 tablespoons coconut flour
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
2 eggs
¼ cup coconut milk, full fat
½ cup blanched almond flour
½ cup flax meal
⅓ cup nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon Dried Oregano
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 (6 oz) white fish fillets
Combine the coconut flour and garlic powder in a shallow bowl. In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the egg and coconut milk. Combine the blanched almond flour, flax meal, nutritional yeast, and dried oregano in a third shallow bowl.
Arrange the 3 bowls near your stove within arm’s reach. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Dip each fish fillet in the coconut flour mixture, then in the egg, and finally in the almond flour mixture so it’s well coated. Add the fish to the pan, working in batches if necessary, and sauté for 8 minutes, until golden and cooked through, turning once. Serve immediately.
