About

Here’s the homemade BBQ sauce that I like to whip up. Since most store-bought BBQ sauces contain refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup, it’s nice to have this quick and wholesome option.

Note: Making homemade ketchup is also quite easy. Here’s how: Rub 5 large tomatoes and 1 large, peeled red onion with olive oil. Grill until charred—I use a grill pan over medium-high heat. Combine the charred tomatoes and onion in a food processor with 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 packet stevia (or 3 tablespoons coconut palm sugar), 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Optionally, add a seeded, grilled jalapeño and a handful of fresh cilantro. Bend until smooth.

Serves 16

⅓ cup coconut palm sugar

⅔ cup natural ketchup

3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons dijon mustard

Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over low heat, mixing often. Cook for 3 minutes and remove from heat. Enjoy!
