Crispy Ginger Tofu with Orange Sauce
Adapted from Alicia Silverstone’s recipe in The Kind Diet, this is a great way to take plain old baked tofu and to turn it into something special. Throw it onto a pile of brown rice with a side of veggies, use it in a sandwich, or toss it into your salad.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 (7 oz) package savory-flavored baked tofu (I use Trader Joe’s brand)
- 1/2 cup corn meal (polenta)
- 1/2 cup brown rice flour
- 1 inch fresh ginger, finely minced or grated
- 2 Tablespoons sesame oil
- 2/3 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- Slice the tofu. Mix the corn meal, flour and ginger in a shallow bowl.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet. Coat each tofu slice in the flour mixture, place into the skillet and brown each side. Transfer cooked tofu pieces to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
- Mix the orange juice and syrup in a small bowl. Serve tofu slices with dipping sauce.
