Crispy Ginger Tofu with Orange Sauce

This is a fun way to dress up tofu.

Adapted from Alicia Silverstone’s recipe in The Kind Diet, this is a great way to take plain old baked tofu and to turn it into something special. Throw it onto a pile of brown rice with a side of veggies, use it in a sandwich, or toss it into your salad.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 (7 oz) package savory-flavored baked tofu (I use Trader Joe’s brand)
  • 1/2 cup corn meal (polenta)
  • 1/2 cup brown rice flour
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, finely minced or grated
  • 2 Tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  1. Slice the tofu. Mix the corn meal, flour and ginger in a shallow bowl.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet. Coat each tofu slice in the flour mixture, place into the skillet and brown each side. Transfer cooked tofu pieces to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
  3. Mix the orange juice and syrup in a small bowl. Serve tofu slices with dipping sauce.
